About

Hi sweet fern, it is my great pleasure to have you here in visit!
My name is Alea and I am the one girl behind Pluvial Fern.

Since I can remember, I used to be that wild kid with persistent peeled knees and pockets full of rocks, feathers, hazelnuts or anything interesting I found outside, in my long afternoons spent in the woods near the house.

My favourite activities were climbing trees, picking wild berries and observing the flora and fauna: I noticed all the subtle natural events that only kids have the patience and curiosity to scrutinize and study for hours straight: the laborious work of a crested titmouse creating her nest, or the way the juiciest wild strawberries always “hid” behind the leaves ..

The time I had to spend indoors, was divided between my studies and my love for arts. I would collect my intuitions from outside and turn those into drawings, small wooden sculptures or embroidered pieces. Anything that kept my hands busy was also the best cure for my soul.

“Accidentally” discovering metalsmithing, in 2017, was one of those EUREKA moments! A whole new world of opportunities unfolding in my yet inexpert hands.
Being a fully self taught maker was very challenging. And although I spent years studying and practicing, and I managed to become a bit more familiar and connected with the medium, I will always refrain from considering the surprises and challenges of this craft exhausted.
What the metal allowed me to do, through its malleability and mouldability, was translating my profound affection for nature into wearable talismans that contain all those natural elements that fascinanted my inner child immensely.

That’s how “Pluvial Fern” was born.
Fine metals and natural gems are the most duttile materials a wilderness lover could ask for in her effort to make the ephemeral elements of the outdoors, last the test of time in the shell of amulets.

My hope as a maker is to leave you with a piece of jewelry that communicates the passion and gratitude that went into creating it. And maybe, that tiny treasure will act as a reminder of the astounding beauty of Nature that we’re all so intrinsically connected to.

P.S. Did you know that starting in October 2019, for every order made from Pluvial Fern, one tree has been planted? Up to January 2022, more than 740 trees are growing in our shared Pluvial Fern forest, and this is, to me, the most remarkable accomplishment to celebrate together!

With love,

Alea
